Chrome Works

45KW  Chico CA

The photo above shows some of the large solar modules mounted on a commercial building, and some mounted on a carport off to the left. This installation uses 176 large 300 watt solar modules (see below) for a DC nameplate rating of 52.8 KW, giving an AC rating of 45.5 KW. The panels are mounted to Unirac aluminum rails, that are in turn mounted to the building purlins that underly the metal roof. The complete system is engineered to handle 75 mph winds.

The ASE-300 solar module shown at left, manufactured by RWE Schott Solar, utilizes a special patented process for creating the silicon wafers. In the Schott process, crystalline silicon octagonal tubes are drawn from the melt, with each side of the octagon having correct thickness and width (see below). The wafers are then cut using a laser. These large modules (74.5" by 50.5") minimize mounting and wiring costs in large installations like this one.

The photo above shows the underside of one of the custom-built carports that carry solar panels over their entire roof area.

Here you see the major electrical components near the building electrical service (behind the tree at left).  The power from the solar array combiners on the rooftops feeds into the fuse box at the right side of the drawing.

This shot shows some of the carports that were specially constructed and totally covered with the large Schott solar panels.
This photo shows some of the roof-mounted equipment, and how the roof-mounted panels are layed out around the various vent pipes and other obstructions that exist there.
