The ASE-300 solar module shown at left, manufactured by RWE Schott Solar, utilizes a special patented process for creating the silicon wafers. In the Schott process, crystalline silicon octagonal tubes are drawn from the melt, with each side of the octagon having correct thickness and width (see below). The wafers are then cut using a laser. These large modules (74.5" by 50.5") minimize mounting and wiring costs in large installations like this one.  |
